Echo 2013- Trip Update Day 8
Written by Staff Captain; Mieles Ballisat
We arose at sunny Nanny Cay feeling refreshed after our day of rest and ready for what the rest of the program has to challenge us! After a yummy breakfast we settled down to some student lessons. Molly and Drew presented an excellent lesson on lights and day shapes and Chris was most informative talking about appropriate dock etiquette. Opal arrived after our lesson had finished, and we split into two groups. The first went out on Opal, whilst the others studied for their Basic Keel-boat. And many thanks to Leigh for topping up our water tanks too!! Mid way through the morning we swapped over, and upon Opal’s return we were greeted by Elise who had popped by for a cheeky visit.
Over lunch Elise delivered a fantastic lesson on decision making, assisting us in making informative choices about our next two destinations. The afternoon kicked off with a sail to the Bight, Norman Island, with Thomas, Molly, John and Molly sailing over on Opal, whilst Ish, Drew and Leigh under Chris’s skipper-ship sailed Venture over with a great dedocking with Chris at the helm. Once on the ball, we had some downtime to snorkel and catch up on reading and then met to decide our next two destinations – Marina Cay via Fallen Jerusalem and then Diamond Cay, Jost Van Dyke via Sandy Cay. Molly and John served a delicious dinner of Parmesan chicken and with all chores done, a clean boat, and a sleepy crew, we settled down for an early night!
