Alpha 1 2015 – Day 10
written by mate, Alex Armson, Brought to you by the crew of Venture
Today, Julian was our captain and Jack was his navigator and mate. It was the beginning of our second day in Bitter End. After breakfast, we went on a hike around the area and saw some amazing views. It was definitely one of the more demanding hikes though. We then had lunch at the Yacht Club pub, meaning we had no clean up after which everyone was in favor for. After lunch, our group dispersed to do various activities. Sara and Julian went tubing and Ellie and Daniel went water skiing. Julian and Jenna both went sailing in the 420’s but Julian capsized his a few times. Practice makes perfect!
After a day on shore, we returned to the boats for Chili cook off! It was so much fun. It was a competition with the other Alpha boat, so Venture got very competitive. We had Caribbean themed jerk-chili with a side of fresh pineapple, which tasted excellent. We turned our cockpit into a giant tent and made colorful lanterns out of water bottles. We had also prepared a Jeopardy-style, chili themed game show which Mike and Sean did a great job of hosting. However, Julian and Jack were really disappointed that it wasn’t real Chileans who were judging the contest. They still put on a great show and were excellent waiters.
Today our crew did a great job of working as a team during the cook off, but need to work on punctuality. Our miracle moment was when we finished the hike and our quote of the day was “Close quarters makes a close family”- Ellie.
