Lee Bay to Bitter End Yacht Club
The crew of Fermi (Fermites) woke up at 7:15a.m. and had banana cake and yogurts for breakfast. Charlie divers spent the morning under water, with Anton doing his underwater photography specialty and Erin, Jakub, and Michael going for a fun dive. Erin saw a super cool sting ray and lots of jellyfish. Meanwhile, Maeve, Stella and Max went for a snorkel at “The Maze” while Justin hung out on the RIB as surface support. Maeve and Stella saw four squid with Trevor. Afterwards, we went water skiing and sailing on the keelboat Opal Bella, with Keith, Sail Caribbean’s ASA Instructor.
As soon as the divers got back, Maeve made quesadillas for lunch while we were doing pre-departure checks to pick up our anchor. While we were getting ready to leave, Aoife spotted a little brown bird who was water-logged and drowning in the water. She jumped in and picked it up out of the water and swam it to the dinghy to be brought to shore. It stood on her fingers as she swam – it was so cool! Lindley and Sara brought it to shore and saw it fly off when it was dry enough.
We then had a windy sail, upwind to the Bitter End Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda. There were gusts of up to 25 knots, so we reefed and had an awesome sail, and even saw dolphins while we were raising the main sail! Jakub did a great job helming the boat upwind. At the Bitter End, we headed ashore for a cool mangrove lesson given by Kerry and trash clean up to keep the mangroves healthy.
We headed back to Fermi for showers and timed Justin treading water for 20 minutes – it was very impressive. We prepared the boat for the Chili Cookoff! Fermi picked a haunted boat theme and everyone had different jobs to scare the Chileans, who came to test our chilli. Jakub and Erin made the chilli, while Max spiced it to perfection – we think that we definitely deserve to win, but will have to wait until the last day to find out!
