This morning, we woke up on docks at Hodges Creek Marina, our home base. After a buffet breakfast, some divers went to work on their rescue diving while other divers went fun diving. Anne worked towards her dive master by helping teach the rescue course along with Timmy and Shane, who both already have their rescue certification. Claire and Bennett are both doing their rescue diver course for the first time and had a great time being taught by their friends!
While divers were gone, the non-divers completed pre-departure checks and got ready to sail to Trellis Bay, Beef Island. Jaden was skipper of the day today and de-docked Rioja in very tricky wind conditions. James and Liz both loved spending time at the helm during our sail and Liz worked on her tacking! After picking up a mooring ball at Trellis Bay, we all enjoyed a lunch of chicken caesar salad wraps. After lunch, Kerry taught a ‘Leave No Trace’ lesson, followed by a trash snorkel for everyone and, while snorkeling, Bennett found three masks! We then saw a really cool lionfish dissection!
After snorkeling, Liz baked the cake that we used for the cake decorating contest with the ‘full moon’ theme. We all worked together to create an awesome spaceship cake for the judges! After dinner everyone headed to shore for a Full Moon Party under the moonlight with all of the other fleets which was great fun!
