Bravo 2 & Charlie 2 2015 – Day 2

This morning, everyone woke up early with the sun after their first night on the boats. James slept up on the bow all night and was one of the first ones up! We began the day docked at Hodges Creek Marina and all ate a breakfast buffet together. Just after breakfast, Anne left for a full day of diving where she recapped her rescue diving and continued working towards her Dive Master. This unfortunately kept her away while boat photos were taken. Rioja expects to retake a full crew boat photo as soon as possible.
After ensuring that everyone had snorkel gear and had checked in with the Sail Caribbean Divers Dive Shop, Rioja was the first to de-dock from Hodges and begin the inaugural sail to Cooper Island. Liz was the Skipper of the Day and manned the helm for the first de-docking which went very smoothly! The rest of the crew assisted with various maneuvers including sail raising and lowering, where Shane played the role of “monkey” at the mast, hauling on the main halyard. Jaden and Timmy both spent time at the helm during the sail to Cooper Island and Jaden helmed for a tacking maneuver while underway. Liz did her first mooring ball pickup once the crew of Rioja arrived at the mooring field!
After lunch, nearly everyone went diving. Bennett was able to dive on a reef with Jaden, James and Shane while Claire worked towards her rescue specialty. In the evening, we all learned about boat showers and ate tacos for dinner, cooked for us by Shane! Clodagh, Rioja‘s captain, made a delicious cheesecake for dessert. After boat meeting, everyone with hammocks learned how to tie them up with rolling hitches and bowline knots. The crew then fell into bed after a long and fun-filled first day on the water.
