Early Alpha 2015 – Day 3

written by Program Director, Phil Yudin

Another action-packed day for the students and staff of Alpha 1! We woke up to another sunny and warm Caribbean day with the sound of pancakes cooking on the stove top. After a delicious breakfast of pancakes with fruits and yogurt, our open water certification divers Jackson, Daisy, Max, Harry and Jake went to go start their first confined water session, while another lot of us went to do our discover scuba course! Scuba diving was exciting, and a little bit scary according to Lizzie, but Gavin insisted that there was nothing scary about it at all!

While the divers were doing their thing, the rest of us were playing around on the tube and stand-up paddle boards, and snorkeling at Cistern Rock! Garrett and Moss managed to find some rays sunbathing over by Cistern Rock, and picked up some awesome footage of them swimming away. Travis and Irina were a little nervous at first about going tubing, but after they saw everyone else having such a great time, each of them ended up taking a turn and loving it!

We had a delicious lunch of pizza bagels and then waved goodbye to Cooper Island, as we dropped our mooring ball to head for the high seas! While underway, we learned about points of sail, parts of sail, and the Right of Way rules. Once we picked up our mooring ball at Great Harbor on Peter Island, it was shower-time and then time to prep dinner! Teriyaki chicken stir-fry was on the menu for tonight, which turned out delicious! Grayson and Olivia insisted that it tasted so good because it was made with love, which Lara disagreed with – it was all due to the Adobo seasoning! We had a long, crazy day, so when “lights out” finally came around, we were all excited to hit the hay and rest up for another long day.
