Early Alpha 2015 – Day 4

written by Program Director, Phil Yudin and student, Virginia Doty

Today was a big day of firsts and accomplishments! We got to sail on Opal Bella, a smaller sailboat, go wake-boarding and water-skiing, take a turn out on the tube, and hang out on the beach. Ellie, Garrett, Moss, Caroline, and Olivia had a  yummy lunch over at the Bight and relished the opportunity to order some cold sodas and frozen drinks. Grayson went out wake-boarding with Grant, and while Grant took his opportunity to show off his sweet carving skills, Grayson decided to try her hand at wake-skating, and managed to stand up on her second try! Kyle, Sebastian, Mark, and Gavin had a good time trying to hold on to the tube for dear life while swinging around through wake and tumbling into the water.

Here’s a recap of Early Alpha’s day according to Xeres, as narrated by her skipper Virginia and the whole crew!

“Today, we sailed from Peter Island to the Bight on Norman Island. Once we got there, we swam in the ocean and got to tan and chill out! Later, we went to shore and went on a hike. We saw a beautiful view and got to stand on a helicopter pad at the top of the island! We then did group rotations of water-sports, Opal Bella Sailing, and chilling at the beach club. Opal Bella is a 26 foot Colgate sailboat and it was a lot of fun. After we got back to the boat, we took boat showers in a squall! Unfortunately, our evening plans got cancelled because of the weather so we stayed on the boat, but we had a great dinner of Philly Cheese-steaks and had our boat meeting at the end of the night.

Today our crew did a great job of having fun while sailing and cooking!

We need to work on working together as a team.

Quote of the day: “I’m the big angry Irish man” – Kevin Bonnie, Captain of Xeres

Miracle Moment: the view at the top of the hike.”
