Early Alpha 2015 – Day 5
written by Program Director, Phil Yudin
Quite an activity filled day for the folks of Early Alpha! Today we woke up and went straight into a whole bunch of exciting rotations. Some of us went sailing in Opal Bella, the 26 foot Colgate sailboat, while some folks had a marine biology lesson with Kerry aboard Xeres. Lara and Olivia were particularly excited to go water-sporting, and managed to hold on to the tube for quite a while before they fell off! While Max and Olivia tried their hands at wake-boarding, May, Virginia, and Moss were off snorkeling the caves over at Privateer Bay, and Sebastian even managed to spot a turtle on his snorkel. Gavin and Mark took the opportunity to hang out on the beach and catch up on some well-deserved sleep before heading for their own turn on the tube.
Just like that, it was lunchtime and then time to drop the mooring ball and head up to Marina Cay! We had a beautiful, long sail up to Marina Cay, nudged between Scrub Island and Great Camino. After we got on the ball at Marina Cay, we had our boat showers and a hearty dinner of Lasagna prepared by each boat’s chefs, along with some delicious garlic bread! Irina and Kyle had never prepared a lasagna dinner before, but it came out amazing. After dinner and some cleaning, everyone was ready for bed, but first took the opportunity of a clear sky to do some beautiful stargazing and constellation-spotting!
