Foxtrot 1 & Sierra 1 2015 – Day 9

written by Provisions Manager, Kathryn Broderick, and Social Media Coordinator, Ryan Smith, Brought to you by the crew of Miss You

Today, we woke up at the Bitter End and started off the day with a hearty breakfast of bagels and eggs made by Marley and Matt. At 9:30a.m., both Sierra and Foxtrot went ashore and hiked a big loop around Bitter End. It was a fun and challenging hike with beautiful scenery! Robby was snapping pictures of everyone as the made their way to the top of the island. Vincent and Paul had a great idea to play a few games along the way to break it up a little bit and keep everyone’s mind off the heat!

After the hike, it was time for lunch, everyone had worked up an appetite and headed to the restaurant. Julie, Matt, and Paul had pizza while Robby, Eric, Reese, Dylan, Marley and Paige had Burgers. Everyone was very satisfied.

After lunch, students spent the afternoon rotating between multiple different activities, on land and on sea. They had the chance to peruse the multiple shops the island had to offer, eat up some delicious pub food and relax on the beautiful beach in a peaceful hammock, like Nico was caught doing. Some girls even made necklaces with sea glass under the pavilion. Students could also stir up the sand in beach sports or games. There were turns out on the water, with the opportunity to wake board, water ski, tube or take a ride on the paparazzi. Some students even tried their hand at windsurfing, after getting instructed by our very own provisions manager, KB, who was her university’s windsurfing team captain back in Ireland. She was very proud when Paige, Matt H. and Matt B. landed a few shorts runs after plenty of practice. Many, such as Julie, Marley, Paige, Kayla, Emily and Mayra also chose to take a turn out on the Hobie cats.

After hours of activities, we all reconvened under the pavilion to take a group walk to the nearby beach volleyball court for some competitive matches. Sierra dueled Foxtrot in a best out of three tournament. After two games left them at a tie, Foxtrot ultimately beat out Sierra in a close third match, designating them the ones to take on the big, bad staff team.

After a few enthralling volleys ensued and playful, competitive fervor escalated, the game was unfortunately cut short due to a greedy palm tree trapping our precious volleyball high up in the air. Unfortunately, we will never know who the true merited victors were.

After volleyball, we went back to the boats exhausted. We had showers while Dylan, Vincent and Reese prepared us a wholesome dinner of spaghetti bolognese. Overall it was an awesome day and it was great spending the whole day onshore with everyone. By 10pm everyone was tucked in bed asleep!
