Dead Man’s Bay to Trellis Bay
The day started off early with a morning turtle at 7:30a.m. Sam L. was the first in the water and helped his crew search for turtles. I Am Free searched high and low but unfortunately did not spot a single one! Dead Man’s is normally full of turtles so it was disappointing for both staff and students. However we were not going to let it dampen our day!
At 9a.m., we up-anchored with Daisy at the helm, Matteo as her mate and Skylar as navigator. Callum was on windlass, Jack was the spotter and Tomer did a great job at being chopper. The up-anchor was quick and smooth and soon both sails were up and I Am Free was sailing towards their next destination of Trellis. The wind was strong, gusting at 30 knots and the boat reaching 8.6 knots! It was incredibly fun!
The boat moored at Trellis, with Charlotte as port threader, Bel as starboard threader, Sam P. as hooker and Ben as relay. After lunch, it was time for truck tours. All the crew jumped in the back of a truck, lined with seats and they were driven around Tortola, stopping at Aragorn’s farm, which produces local fruit, and also a ice-cream shop and great look-outs with amazing views.
On their return, they had a small bit of time to look around the shops lining the sea-front. Later that afternoon, the crew did some community service and did a snorkel trash clean up. It was great fun while also helping the environment. The day flew by and it was dinner-time before we knew it. Tonight’s dinner was lasagna.
After dinner and showers, the crew of Miss You joined the rest of the Soxtrot fleet along with the Chavo and Alpha fleet as well for a massive social onshore. There were about 100 kids on the beach for the full moon party. There was music from a live band, and bonfires on the beach with everyone laughing and making new friends. By 9:30p.m., it was time for back to boats, a short boat meeting and then bed.
