Trellis Bay to Long Bay
This morning, we woke up at 7a.m. and had a breakfast of toasted bagels and eggs. At 8a.m., we de-moored and headed over to Long Bay. Addi was the skipper of the day on Miss You and she assigned positions to her crew to make a smooth and successful de-mooring. At Long Bay, we anchored with Addi still at the helm, John, her mate, as her spotter, looking for the perfect spot to anchor. Danielle was on the windlass and Hill was the chopper. At 9a.m., it was time for water sports. Jack and Keith went wake boarding, Hill, Sutton and Max went out on the Picos. Sutton and John went out on both Picos and then the stand up paddle boards. Sydney, Sammy and Addi went water skiing and Addi also went out on the small boats with Liz, mate of Miss You. After lunch of baked ziti, it was time for the divers to go on their final dives of the program!
After the divers had left, Miss You up-anchored and motored over to White Bay. At White Bay, we had a guest speaker, Dr. Graham Forrester, a marine biologist who works on coral reef conservation in the British Virgin Islands. He gave a short talk on his experiments and then, we all jumped in the water to see his work. He had coral suspended in the water on PVC piping, growing bigger until he could re-attach it to the reef. It was very interesting for the students to see.
After all the activities, everyone was starving and a BBQ was ready for us back at Long Bay! The students raced for the food and ate burgers, hot dogs, salad, chips, and biscuits until they were all stuffed. All students were in great form after a wonderful day of both fun and informative activities. Eventually, we all headed back to the boats to power down for the day.
