Nanny Cay to Mountain Point

Staff woke up extra early to dedock the boats and begin the long sail to Mountain Point on Virgin Gorda. Quinton and James were up early, so they gave us a hand with our dock lines. We had to make a quick stop at Hodges Creek Marine, home base, to replace the block on our halyard. The students weren’t too upset about it, because they got to sleep in a little extra while the staff took care of repairs. We left Hodges, and after we motored a ways out into the channel, we woke the students up and Kenya and Ashley got breakfast ready for everyone.

After everyone had eaten, Hannah, our skipper for the day, took the helm and got our crew ready to raise sails. Matt and Patrick hauled in on the halyard while Adam eased reefing lines. The sail was fun and we listened to some great tunes from Hannah’s iPod while underway. Then, we got to Mountain Point and lowered our anchor, with Lisa as our windlass operator and Will as our spotter. Once anchored, the divers headed out for two fun dives while our non-divers and DSD students had a chill afternoon.

The divers got back and Adam excitedly told us about the shark he saw! Matt, James, Adam, and Lisa all completed their Open Water certification on the dives, so everyone was feeling amazing. Skylar and Quinton prepped a delicious dinner of sweet and sour chicken while we watched the sunset. Mountain Point, a remote anchorage, is famous for its sunsets, and this one did not disappoint!

Late that night, Quinton, Adam, Lisa, Skylar, and Patrick went on a night snorkel around the reef, lead by Grace. We saw lots of urchins prowling and sleeping reef fish. On our way back to the boat, we turned our dive lights off and experienced some of the most amazing biolume the BVI has to offer. All the students were absolutely astounded at how gorgeous it was. It was a fantastic end to a fun day!

Look forward to photos to accompany this post later today!
